My experience postpartum was exactly what I thought it would be but in a much more vivid tone. I felt the elation and the depression and the helplessness I had been told I might. My range of emotion expanded in both directions so wide that when I was on one end I could not see the other nor believe it existed. This painting is about the elation side. The snuggling the baby in bed side. The dreamy sunlight sepia-toned side. I hope to make paintings about the other side too but today is for remembering the sunlit memories.
